Copy the IMG on a USB stick: sudo fdisk -l (look for your usb device) and sudo dd if=thinkpadbios.img of=/dev/sdX bs=1M status=progress oflag=direct. Restart, interrupt start with ENTER, enter boot menu with F12 and select Linux Firmware Updater. Select 2 (Update system program)

If I unplug from the thunderbolt dock, I get full CPU. Also note that the dock works fine for external monitors, usb ports, etc. At first, I thought the dock (or cord from the dock) was the problem, but I plugged the laptop into a co-worker's TB-16 (with their cord) and had the same issue. Note that the dock works fine for their laptop.
